Another fantastic evening at THP Students tonight! Two of our worship leaders, Tori an Matt, loving called Team TM, did an amazing job of leading us in worship! After worship we had a guest speaker, Celeste, step in to continue our conversation on the 5 gifts of Ephesians 4.
The Notes:
Tonight, we’re talking about the gift of teaching!
ASK: Who knows someone in Scriptures who you would say is a good example of the gift of teaching?
Acts 13:1-3 ESV
Now there were in the church at Antioch prophets and teachers, Barnabas, Simeon who was calle1d Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen a lifelong friend of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” Then after fasting and praying they laid their hands on them and sent them off. ”
What is the point of Teaching as a spiritual gift?
Gift of teaching reveals/revelation.
This gift wants to communicate the truth about God so that all understand.
This gift reveals then leads to application (next steps).
ASK: So what does it look like when someone is functioning in the gift of teaching?
When this gift is functioning properly you hear, “I’ve never seen that before…” “I get it, I finally understand it!” This gift has an amazing capacity to take the most complex subjects/situations, clearly define them regardless of the maturity of the hearer!
ASK: So what are the characteristics of this gift? What are some traits that a really good teacher has?
The Gift of Teaching Is:
Curious about the depths of God.
Loves to learn in every situation (teachable moments).
Asks/Seeks/Knocks continually to understand.
Engages conversations about Jesus and the Word.
Teachers don’t waste what they’ve been through.
Their life becomes a tapestry of Gods goodness to be shared. Everything is a teachable moments.
The gift is not simply a natural gift it is supernatural… 1 Corinthians 12:28
1 Corinthians 12:8 ESV
“For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit,”
ASK: What happens if a Body does not have someone functioning in this gift?
Lies are rarely challenged.
Doing the Word is not primary. (living out the Word of God, not just studying it.)
Growth is hindered.
Biblical literacy is lacking.
People don’t become learners.
Gifting becomes more important than character/integrity
We don’t just need inspiration we need revelation of the truth. Not enticing words of mans wisdom but power and demonstration of the Holy Ghost.
A great description of this is in Acts 18:24-28
Acts 18:24-28 ESV
“Now a Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, came to Ephesus. He was an eloquent man, competent in the Scriptures. He had been instructed in the way of the Lord. And being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things concerning Jesus, though he knew only the baptism of John. He began to speak boldly in the synagogue, but when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately. And when he wished to cross to Achaia, the brothers encouraged him and wrote to the disciples to welcome him. When he arrived, he greatly helped those who through grace had believed, for he powerfully refuted the Jews in public, showing by the Scriptures that the Christ was Jesus.”
ASK: How do we walk this out practically in your life?
